Hey all

Not sure this is in the correct section however here goes.

Does anybody know of a secure garage for rent/to buy (to buy VERY cheaply) within the Oxford area. I am flying the nest to oz for atleast six months probably a few years so need somewhere to store the mini and a couple select parts which I havn't sold.

Any help would be appreciated, not too keen on the council garages in some areas of Oxford!

I haven't found any yet :(

I rent a couple of council garages and the Garage Team at Oxford City Council are helpful with pointing you in the direction of the better blocks.  I'm happy with both of mine other than the price, which I am not at all happy with.  They are £15 each a week!  :ohno:

Car storage is my biggest nightmare and Oxford seems terrible for it.  Sorry I can't be more helpful :(  Hopefully someone else might be the bearer of better news.

Cheers for the reply.

Out of curiosity which areas are your council garages in, I'm reluctant to rent one in Blackbird Leys/Barton areas. Mainly because I used to live in Barton and know exactly what it is like!

I wouldn't use Barton either (know the area well!), but I'm not so up to date with Blackbird Leys.

I have one in Headington near Green Road Roundabout (there are several blocks round there) and one in Wood Farm.  I was concerned about Wood Farm, but the Council checked their records for me and said they had no record of problems with garages in the Wood Farm area and it's been fine.  They also allow you to put as much security on the garages as you like, which is good.  For me, the big problem with them is the price.

Might want to remove those locations just in case. Paranoid but you never know who's watching.

Black bird lees is okay if you fancy wearing a stab vest.

I'm not worried - those areas have several garage blocks and our Minis don't live in them.  They're for my Maestro and Montego and while I adore them, I do have to be a little realistic and accept that not many others do :(  I haven't noticed a lucrative market in Maestro and Montego parts!

I don't think it's that bad anymore   If you are of a certain age (over 40), you will probably remember the infamous footage from the early nineties of a stolen Maestro being driven round BBL, donuts etc, while watched and cheered on by a throng of young people.  Poor little Maestro :(

Back on subject - I have seen this.  I don't know if it is too far away and I don't know what their charges are, but it might be another option.  Unfortunately, I definitely need my storage to be in Oxford, so it's no good for me.

Wow, they look pretty good. I'd forgotten rusting panels weren't standard when built!

Ha ha - you are rude!!  While Montgomery has had work and been repainted, Milly is still in the original paint that she left Cowley in 30 years ago tomorrow!  Today is her Birthday, she rolled off the line in QT block on South Works on 25th May 1983, and was dispatched a day later.  Obviously, North and South Works at Cowley are long gone, but today I took her back to the roughly where QT would have been for a few photos.  As usual, security came along to ask me what I was doing (it is now a business park), so I explained and he said his colleague in the office, Dave, used to work at Cowley so he called him.  Dave had worked on Maestro from its beginning until he left in 1986, so had probably welded Milly's bonnet, as that's what his job was.  Dave came down to meet Milly and me and he was pretty amazed by her condition and really pleased to see her.   Here is a photo of Milly with him pointing at where he would have welded.
