Noticed today in my mini that when pulling uphill if I put my foot down the car accelerates but I hear a tinkling kind of sound that then goes either if I ease back on the throttle or if the gradient becomes less steep. Is this sound pinking?

Yes it is, you will need to sort that out sooner rather than later as you could be running too lean.

The plugs are a golden brown colour. It's a 998cc.with a 12g295 head. I have 180psi compression across all four cylinders. Maybe its too high and trying to run like a diesel.

Has the engine been timed correctly and has anything else been done to the engine ie sports air filter modified exhaust etc.

It's got a stage one kit with k&n element in nodded box. It's got megajolt but no rolling roads around here can tune it. I have the aldon yellow map loaded. Maybe go for a slightly more retarded map may help.

I think you have answered your own question there as the car really needs to be set up on a rolling road.

Yes it does really but there are no rolling roads that understand megajolt around here. Think I will have to download a few maps and try the car until it feels right.

Ok. Just take five degrees from every value? The car accelerates well on the flat or when only myself in the mini but with the wife and two children in it today I noticed the tinkling sound.

I have loaded the stage 3 1380 map onto the megajolt as it is lower by around 5-8 degrees over each value. Will try and see how it goes now.
