Hi, now at last stages of rebuild and cant remember which wires go where for the lights. Ive got indicators working but have no headlights (side, dipped or full) on the switch but have full beam on the stalk?? don't have rear lights or dash lights either??? just need to know what colours go to what at the connections at the front of the engine bay. Bl/w-? rd/g-? ect..

Have a look here...

Or ideally, get the Haynes manual with the wiring diagram for your car....

The wiring colours have mostly not changed, and the Haynes manual "should" have all that you need (finding it is another matter altogether!), unless your loom has been badly modified, probably very common due to the age of all Minis now. However, to hopefully get you started, I will tell you the main colours.

Brown - live feed from battery terminal of starter solenoid, goes direct to light switch, no fuse.
Red - side/tail lighs from light switch, becomes red-green after a fuse. Later models have a left and right fuse, so it splits into red-something and red-something else, for left and right side/tail lights. (Sorry not at home right now, no diagram to check the exact colours, but you will find them at the front bunch of bullet connectors and also in the boot.)
Blue - main feed from light switch to dip switch only.
Blue-white - main bean from dip switch to front bullet connectors above middle of grille, then to both headlights
Blue-red - dip as above.
If you have a very late car with fused headlights, the blue-red and blue-white will each split two ways via a fuse, four fuses in total, into blue-something colours. There will never be a single fuse anywhere in the headlight circuit, only seperate for left and right, main and dip. Think what happens if the single fuse blows on a dark road at night and you will see why it is illegal to wire it that way.
Black - from bulkhead earth to front bullet connectors and thence to both head and side lights. For safety's sake please consider replacing that with a seperate earth from each light, left and right, as the single connection often fails and kills both main and dip beams.

If you get all that connected up, and it does not work perfectly, report back with as precise as possible description of the problems, and we will see what we can suggest.

If you are having trouble with the wire colours, a squirt with WD40 and wipe with a cloth often makes the colours clearer.
