Ive just bought a 1990 Cooper with a Catalyst and the original manifold.
Ime thinking of replacing with an RC40 type stage 1 kit. Has anyone had MOT emissions problems having done this?

no problem with a MOT
and the exhaust , manifold and air filter have been fitted for about 18 years so have passed many

well what you need is a new exhaust that has the facility to have the cat but you can buy a link pipt so when it comes time to have the mot just remove the link pipe a cople days before and run cat get tested and then refit link pipe........thats what most folks do......

Ive considered that option, mk1, but I can't believe its conducive to good gas flow...unless you know better? ![]()

I have the same car. It's cat free. I have an RC40 twinbox with a cooper freeflow (not the usual lcb), a decent inlet, ramair filter (with turner carbs stub stack) and a slightly ported big valve head. I get tremendous results with no emission issues.

That is the route I am thinking of, tho I think I will keep the single carb. Thanks for the advice.

You wont need a cat on a 1990 Cooper for a MOT and the engine will perform better with a LCB and a RC40 system on.
