I really like the 1st gen R50's, they to me were more Mini looking than the newer R56's. Wouldn't mind a 1st gen Cooper S in that Slate Grey with White Wheels

Good article. The R50 certainly is the one that looks the most like Issigonis' design. Would love to have an original 2001 Cooper next to my MPI :)

The latest July 2013 Mini Magazine introduces their R53 MINI Cooper S as a Project Car for some occasional 'how to' articles when used as a fun daily driver car for a classic owner......the first New MINI to be regularly featured in the mag, although Mini Mag often features New MINI news items in its editorial pages.

(I won't post up the pages (pg110-111) as it is in the current July issue on sale in shops now).

MINI R Numbers
All Mini models have R-series model numbers assigned to them. These are a legacy of the Mini's original development within Rover Group. The following designations are known as follows;
http://www.minigenui...NI_History.html
The forthcoming range of Mk3 MINI's will use 'F' code numbers instead of the Rover 'R' project numbers which MINI's have used up to now.
eg. F56 = Mk3 MINI Hatch
(Most BMW's use 'E' numbers).
