Hello everyone. New to this forum and to the mini. I just purchased a mini sprite 1300 auto. I have been driving it around and went for a longer than usual journey for the car (25 miles). I was going up an average hill and the mini all of a sudden started lacking power. After this I noticed that the temp gauge had started to rise. I stopped the car just before it went on red and after I stopped I got outbid the car to then hear a burst of water come out from the bottom of the radiator (where the sensor for the fan is)

Anyone have any ideas before i jump in and break more! Annoyingly I was going to take it to Brighton this sat for the show!

I'd say it was leaking coolant.  :-)

The root cause could be head gasket failure.

Why not open the bonnet and take a look.

Cheers man. Another thought would be that. It was leaking coolant and a small amount of water has been sucked into the air box? That would temporarily cause the mini to lose power wouldn't it?

Very unlikely. More likely a head gasket problem as was said. Of course there could be a ton of other problems too.

You really need to look under the hood and see what's going on, or have someone have a look.

How's it running otherwise?

I got is sorted in the end. The plastic clip that keeps the aux fax switch connected to the radiator was missing. so as i was driving it the water was going everywhere in my car and up the intake. then when i had stopped the fan switch flew out from pressure. I changed the fan switch and put the plastic clip in and its working fine now.

It got me to Brighton and back to Dartford yesterday! Ill have it in for a good check over this weekend though.Exhaust is blowing and i have a very minor oil leak too.

any advice on common places to check?

take the front wheels off(one at a time if you don't have a ramp) check subframe mountings(for corrosion on the bodyshell) and rubbers(on the mounting plates in the front footwells)

tightness check top arm pin nuts, top ball joint, trackrod end(bj nut), bottom arm, balljoint and tie bar (both ends)
