I'd say it was leaking coolant. ![]()
The root cause could be head gasket failure.
Why not open the bonnet and take a look.

Very unlikely. More likely a head gasket problem as was said. Of course there could be a ton of other problems too.
You really need to look under the hood and see what's going on, or have someone have a look.
How's it running otherwise?

I got is sorted in the end. The plastic clip that keeps the aux fax switch connected to the radiator was missing. so as i was driving it the water was going everywhere in my car and up the intake. then when i had stopped the fan switch flew out from pressure. I changed the fan switch and put the plastic clip in and its working fine now.
It got me to Brighton and back to Dartford yesterday! Ill have it in for a good check over this weekend though.Exhaust is blowing and i have a very minor oil leak too.
any advice on common places to check?

take the front wheels off(one at a time if you don't have a ramp) check subframe mountings(for corrosion on the bodyshell) and rubbers(on the mounting plates in the front footwells)
tightness check top arm pin nuts, top ball joint, trackrod end(bj nut), bottom arm, balljoint and tie bar (both ends)
