I have fitted a new inner sill this weekend and was unsure what paint to use when fitting the outer sill over it. Do you put waxoyl in there before fitting ?

Thanks

Andy.

I would use a good zinc then scratch it in the holes before plug welding. Then after welding inject with waxoyl as it is likely to effect the welding if you put it on before

Do not put waxoyl in first! I did this to a sierra and had the whole sill in flames, shooting out the ends! Just normal paint inside it, with a zinc weld through on seams imo

Hiya guys just a quick question, when you say inner sill I'm not 100% sure what you mean or my mini has has yet another bodge! All I can see on mine is the floor and the outer sill? Oh and serious amounts of rust and filler....obv lol

The inner sill is part of the floor from original unless its a pre 1960 car. It includes the base of the rear bin as well. A common aftermarket inner sill goes around the cross member and misses the rear bin base, then a bodges up oversill is fitted outside to make it look good, not good practice though.

Downright dangerous too, as it omits an important stressed area. Funny how the supposedly reputable Mini suppliers all sell those bodgers panels, as well as selling oversills, which are also structurally ineffective as well as being a serious rust trap. Either is an MOT failure, if spotted, as they don't meet the requirements for welded repairs.

The inner sill really needs paint on it before the outer sill is fitted. On my clubby i stripped off the old paint treated any surface corrosion then zinc primed followed by top coat. The areas where weld is going to be applied i used weldable zinc rich primer and the same applies to the flanges on the outer sill.

When i welded the outer on then i applied some paint inside where possible followed by waxoyl.
