Waxstat Conversion

Best Answer lrostoke , 04 June 2013 - 03:57 AM

or if the jet tube is in good condition you could just use the 2 x 1p trick to convert

remove waxstat jet

carefully prise over the 3 tangs that hold the bottom on (its spring loaded)

and remove these bits

replace the waxstat bit with 2 x 1p coins

don't forgot put in the small metal rod above the coins

Hi ive been advised to swap the current waxstat for a jet. My car has not been ruuning at its best and as its my birthday in the next two weeks its time for her to have a few presents. Is the kit in the above link suitable for converting my hs4 waxstat? Its on a 79 1000 car and i asume it to be origional. Also i know theres already a lot of topics about it already but what is recomended as the defult needle for any mini fitted with a stage 1 kit

(without taking it to a rolling road as i cant afford the cash or time at the moment and there are a lot more bits it needs before it would be worth it!)

No.  That kit is for rebuilding a carb already fitted with a fixed jet, not for altering one.  You would need a different jet linkage.  There is a conversion jet available now direct from SU that means you don't need to change the linkage.  Who told you to change it?  The needle to use with the stage 1 kit is the one that came with it.

was told to change by a friend who works at an engine builders. he advised that it would run far better especially when idling for long periods. the car keeps running a bit rough and flat and then seems ok and as timing is pretty much spot on and running electric ignition I want to sort out fueling. No idea when the carb last had any work but certainly not in the 20K and two years ive owned it.

I guess i will need this and a service kit then or would you reccomend i just rebuild and keep as waxstat?
