Very few breakers yards have parts for the Mini or any other classic car these days.

No, it's the same everywhere now. If you have any sort of classic from a Ford Popular to an E-Type Jag you won't find any parts in a breakers yard now.
Driving a classic car means buying from specialists or fellow enthusiasts.
The best thing to do is post under 'Wanted' on here as lots of us have piles of Mini parts in our garages & workshops and will always do our best to help other owners.

You're probably better off somewhere rural, where there might still be the odd old style yard. The men in high viz jackets have pretty much killed off breaker's yards. That 'n the complexity of modern motors, we now have "recycling stations" that cut up tonnes of perfectly good engineering because a few quids worth of electronics has gone up the swannie, but that's progress and it sounds really good if you measure saving the planet by weighing in scrap metal, rather than the energy invested in churning it round & round the production cycle.

Ethel, don't get me started on the scrappage scheme! While the idea of getting rid of absolutely knackered old cars sounds good in theory, the reality is the only people who could afford a new car, in the main, were those who already had a car and thought it a good idea to scrap perfectly good cars (often a second car in the household or a slightly older main car). They only seemed to factor in the immediate emissions of the car - not the production of a new car, the transportation pollution to get it to where it needed to be, the extraction of the old car etc. Idiots.

What the gov't actually factored into the scrappage scheme was the VAT/Tax they got.
The dealer gave a £1000 discount, which was actually about £800 as they would have got £200 for the weight of the scrap. But, of course, the dealer would have discounted a new car by £800 for a cash sale with no part-ex anyway. The gov't put in £1000, then clawed back almost double that from the sale of the new car. So in the end it was the buyer who paid and received nothing in return except a rapidly depreciating new car which lost more than that £2000 in its first year.
Cynical? Moi?

You missing the point. If you buy a new car, you don't own it. It actually costs you less than a 3 year old one.

??

I reckon I've just done a good deal. I bought a 2007 BMW which cost about £60,000 new for £8000 with 89000 miles recorded and full service history.

Which area are you? There was a place on the Dorset border my dad uses that had 2 scrap yards next door. Both used to get the odd Mini through. I know my local "commercial" yard does too, although they get crushed pretty quick so you have to be on the ball.

was gonna say the same thing... If you fancy a little further to drive, Paul at Tupmans Mini's is a good bet. Give him a ring and see what he's got
