The horn on our Cooper Sport has stopped hooting and the bloody MOT is due next week.

Horn works when alarm is activated.
Horn relay, (behind dash), is functioning correctly, tested for contacts clicking and for resistance, both are fine.
20amp fuse in interior fuse box is fine.
I have 12volts at the multiplug that plugs into the rotary coupling behind steering wheel.
Removed and checked both steering wheel horn buttons and they seem fine.

Thinking there is a fault with the rotary coupling, any thoughts on this folks? Would be nice to here your thoughts before I remove the steering wheel/airbag assembly.

Many thanks.

Is the srs light on aswell? Seen the srs light on and the horn not working on an mgf and that was the rotary coupler. Might be different on the Mpi but you would have thought not.....

Edit: for clarity the air bag uses the coupler hence the srs light

No mate, SRS light is not on. Never had any issues with the light, perhaps the bulb is shot ;-)

The airbag coupling doesn't have any related wiring to the horn...

I had a look at the wiring diagrams and according to this the horn uses the rotary coupler. I guess it would have to or you would need two couplers, one for the horn and one for the air bag.

I had the exact same problem, turned out to be the actual horn who had died. Swapped it for a cheap chrome type with a high tune and everything was fine, beep beep!

Thanks for the replies.
Surely if the horn sounds with the alarm then it isn't faulty???

I've no experience with MPI horns, but if theres 3 or more wires, it could work via alarm but not via horn switch

Yes mate, srs light works exactly as it should do. Horn worked fine, just stopped working suddenly, no intermittent fault as such :-/
