Well has been a busy week.. After Mondays diss-assembly of the clutch housing it was time to clean it up and put it all back together, would you believe it is just as much a pain in the arse putting it back together as taking apart; well it was! It all goes back together and with a bit of jigging around managed to get the engine mount back into position! Woohoo it works. All it need now is adjusting.
While it was apart it was noticed that the starter was also seized! Now my father being my father said "leave it on my bench i'll have a look when i get in tomorrow" and true to his word the next day was sat in my box of bit in a working manner! :) So that was also chucked back in and the engine was turned over for the first time! Hazzaa it lives, well it turn over! Next up is the dreaded compression test this is the live or die moment!
Cylinder Compressions:

Cylinder 4 is a little low may need some work in the near future! But should be fine to get the engine running!
After the success of the night before the Wednesday was rather dull in comparison but necessary none the less! Was the first root around underneath the car with it jacked up on axle stands to see what i could find! To my surprise it was all surface rust! So with out further a do out with the wire brush then started a 3 hour wire brushing\waxoiling marathon! I do have before and after photos but they are on my other camera will upload another day!
Thursday was meant to be an evening of as mate of Geoff-d agreed to buy my spare front subframe after his son had an a argument with a range rover and lost! (He took avoiding action up a big kerb smashing the sump and subframe! Whoops!) However i then realised that i was ment to swop the adjustabe tie rods over before it was collected, then ensued a mad rush to get them swopped! This was not to be, the tie rod bolts at the hub end impacts on the hub not allowing it to be removed without removing the hub! Dohh! So they stayed attached so the subframe! The subframe was collected had a nice chat with the guy then said hello to the missus and watched a Bond Film!
Friday arrives! After the arduous working week i decided it was time to tackle the lack of indicators.. now this is a brain bending task! Friday was a complete and utter fail.. some progress but the nearside front indicator refused to flash with the hazards! Arrgh, was only getting 1.2 volts! After many head scratching moments i retired for the evening to gather information, this involved many hours searching but finally had the information i required!
Saturday began and with renewed vigor i leap into action! The hazards didn't stand a chance! Identified the weak link!

The bottom connector is for the near side indicators.. the + cable that runs from the bulk head to the front indicator was to put it mildly screwed! so a new cable was run and whoop whoop we have 4 flashing bulds! Gettin! Now i feel on a role so time to tackle the non-flashing indicators! they just seem to stay on! and as they stay on there is no tick-tock-tick-tock from the flasher unit making it hard to track down! After a bit of fiddling with the stalk the indicator started to blink however the time delay between blinks was massive! Though the delay was massive it allowed me to track the flasher unit to behind the dash board! to my surprise they had fitted the wrong one! I had a 21w x 2 + 5w even though i have no side repeaters! Cue the hunt for the correct flasher unit.. Halfords, Eurocarparts, GSF car parts, for a laugh BMW! :) Nout, will have to wait for the online order!
Next up was my missus turning up with my shock mounts! This was a good surprise, however this was a good as my weekend from here on in was going to get! I then preceded to remove the old shock mount to reveal...

A BIG Hole!
Time to leaving till Sunday methinks as it start raining!
Now Sunday is a short day due to the fact of my nephews 10th birthday party which i must attend to monitor 30 ten year old making a right mess! As per usual 10 year old girls one side of the room and 10 year old boys running around making arses of themselves! Any way i digress!
After a bit of handy work with the grinder i now have an even bigger hole! Taadaaa

The metal moth has taken its tole here!
Then the next 3 hours spent fashioning a new lower flange to hold the lower mounting bolts and then two plate to go over the top! this are should have been a double layer of 0.9mm steel (that's what make the hole that much more impressive, hell it even rusted a hold through the shock mount aswell!). The point came to weld the bits together and this is the first time i tested the mighty Snap-On 130 Turbo against its metal foe! It failed miserably! For the 3 minutes of welding i completed it took 1 minute of welding and 15 minutes of getting the welder working again! So it was getting time to pack up as i had to be at the party at 3! Disappointing end to an otherwise successful week or so i thought!
Later that evening the distributor arrived from Cornwall via one of my brother's (patricksouth) colleagues who will be working in Portsmouth this week! Result this means tonight will be fitting the new fuel hose and putting the dizzy in! Will it live Dr Frankinstein!!
