Hi All

Had a great day out on the L2B on Sunday but then within 100 yards of reaching the hotel car park I managed to overheat :(  I left Roger overnight to cool down and then topped him back up and drove home with no issues.

I wanted to check if there are any problems with flushing and replacing the coolant and what is the best way to do it or any useful tips, it's a 97 MPI.

Thanks in advance

Just done it on mine, put cooling system flush in & used the car for a week (about 60 miles)

then drained & refilled with new coolant.

Dont forget to run with the heater on so it flushes that at the same time.

Out of curiosity, what flush do you use?

The best (but not necessarily the easiest) way to empty the coolant is to undo the bottom hose on the radiator

Or undo the drain plug if your radiator has it. Or take out the electric fans thermostatic switch

MPI's don't have a drain plug & the fan swith is in the thermostat housing.

Whilst on the topic, I'm wanting to change the temp housing gasket, if I just take the temp sensor out does that drain it enough to allow me to take it off and change the gasket??

You may wish to check the cap for the expansion tank. If it has never been changed it may be worth changing. I keep a spare in the boot.

If the cap does not hold the pressure properly, it will leak. If it finally gets very bad, it appears as if the engine has overheated, but the cap may actually just not be holding the pressure.

Terry
