Currently using 10w50 Castrol gtx oil but I want something thicker to stop so much leaking. Could I just start putting Halford classic car oil 20w50 in or do I need to drain it?

You really need to stop the leaks as when the Halfords oil is warm it thins down. The recommended oil for mini's is 20W50 anyway.

You should be using 20w50 already, the halfords classic one is good

A thicker oil won't stop leaks. You need to identify the cause of the leaks and rectify them.

Drips from the bottom of the engine the ridged metal bit, it's only a little bit, sometimes it doesn't leak throughout the week

Oils with same hot viscosity index are supposed to have the same viscosity once at temp.

Apart from that Halfruads' shears down way before the GTX, acting like 40 weight oil once warm..

That's very true. That's why I use 20/50 millers oil
