hi guys, so recently ive been considering getting banded steel wheels for my pride and joy. i was thinking of getting some with the same dimensions (size, offset, etc,) as my 13x7 ultralites, or just getting my 12" steelies banded. (and dont worry, ive done my homework so i know about all the risks and stuff  ;D

are there any places people would recommend for this sort of work? i hear jamesp over on retro rides does pretty decent work (assuming hes still doing it) but i cant seem to find him on there.

anyway, any help would be much appreciated, and sorry if this has been brought up before

cheers guys

Chris

I've just done exactly this. Have a look at my slow moving build thread. The wheels still need shotblasting and painting but you can get an idea of what they're gonna look like. They're now 13 x 7  :)

I got them done at a place in Chichester, West Sussex at a place called Weldfab. He does the banding for a couple of eBay companies so he's pretty handy at his job.

If you're interested I'll grab you his number.

those look brilliant! i didnt realise you could enlarge wheels by banding the as well as widening them, how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking? that looks like a great project too, ill be sure to keep an eye on the progress  ;D. quite jealous of the supercharger too, id have one if an instant if i wasnt broke lol.

yeah the number would be great, thanks a lot. does he have a website?

They are MG Midget steelies so they were 13" to begin with. You can pick them up pretty cheap, I paid £40 off eBay for a set of excellent condition ones.  Weldfab charged £40 per wheel to add a 2.5" band to them. He can finish them for you too but I plan on doing mine myself. When I collected mine He was doing a set in Lambo orange with metal flake that looked awesome.

Their number is 07810875889

Here's an eBay link with a few photos.  Click

Thanks, it should be a good project once I can crack on with it properly  :-)

No problem :-)

Yeah that and the fact I need to get some power sockets wired into the garage to run the welder and compressor, after that i'll be able to crack on.

Good luck with yours, hope you get it finished in time. Any progress thread?

They do look good, the Metro looks awesome on them. Did you paint them yourself?

Yeah mate, used wire wheel on a grinder to take all the old/burnt/blistered paint off, etch prime, filler prime, wet flat, dry, and about 5 coats of hammerite smooth silver spray paint
