Looking at taking out the rear bins but obv need a spot weld drill bit? any good ones that don't have my pants down at the checkout? In all honesty I just use a normal drill bit that I reprofile to almost 0 degree or try the dewalt extreme bits from screwfix they have a pilot bit on the end and then the rest is 0 degree and they are sharp and much cheaper then the special bits

I use a bog stock 1/4" Cobalt drill bit. Plenty of practise drilling holes for the past 33 years helps.

I normally use 8MM Wurth or Dormer bits.

You can do that but sometimes you can see the spot weld clearer with the paint on.

I just change the angle of attack that the drill bit comes with making it more likes milling bit than a drill bit with an almost flat top with a little back cut. Sonikk is right there is no set rule to any of this work some you see better with paint on some better using a wire wheel to remove the paint and it leaves paint in the low spots that are the welds

I often grind spot welds out, if you are replacing the panel you are grinding, it saves holing the panel behind it. Any void can harbor rust and I have found this works for me. Spot welds vary in size on a Mini and I use a spot weld cobalt drill for most. For thicker stuff I just use a normal drill bit reground flat.

Hope that helps

Pete
