I have a classic mini that I am trying to identify. I don't know where to look for I'd tags. I do have a couple of numbers. First was on the bill of sale 8AMUH298578 which is on the engine and the next is on the cowling in the motor compartment below the windshield it is 8MK 7280. I was told it was a 1961 but don't know if the bypass windows were being used then, help. I would really appreciate any advice. Laura.

The VIN number stamped on a plate on the inner wing or bonnet slam panel, and also stamped into the scuttle on later models.

Neither of the numbers you have quoted are the VIN. It has a format such as C-A2S4L-###A, or something similar. If you find that on the car you can identify exactly what you're looking at :)

That would be a chassis number, Mini VINs start SAXX and weren't used before 1980.

if you can post a few photo's we may be able to help identify a rough year, all lucas items have a date stamp week 1-52 / year, 

boot lock and window glass also has a date stamp,

Hence why I was trying to identify using the chassis number instead

Hi, the front clip unfortunately was replaced with a fiberglass one. What is the boot lock. I will get some pics on here. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I will look around the car and see what I can find. Laura
