Hey guys and gals ive been saying that im going to start a Vtec project for ages n ages so i finally made a start and bought a mini, Shes called monkey and is in need of some repairs but hey ive seen worse.

Not a great deal to say at the moment but the overall plan is to get the A series engine in her running and then sold out the way so i can start stripping everything off ready to begin the dreaded welding :(

Going to go for an Allspeed subframe and also try to keep costs down so will try to re-use as many parts as possible and do most of the work myself.

Any way heres some pictures, ENJOY

Picked her up with my mate Chris using his A frame, also stopped at Mcdonalds but didn't attempt the drive through tho

Had to return the 12" wheels that were fitted so shoved some 10's on her lol who says you can't fit 10" wheels onto 8.4 discs ;)

Attached File  IMG-20130610-00894.jpg   46.93K   13 downloads   had to duct tape in some rear windows as she didn't have any and i didn't have time to fix them in properly

Also the keys were rustier than the mini so chucked them in some vinegar and hoped for the best, then shoved the front end on and thats pretty much it for now

ok so as said earlier the interior is all stripped out and ive also removed the entire wiring loom n labeled it all up, couldn't get the petrol cap off the tank so had to jimmy it off with a screw driver. To be honest it was rather worrying how quickly and easy it flew off using minimal force :o apart from that i went round sticking duct tape over holes to try n keep as much water out as possible until i can get her into the dry which hopefully wont be too long as my Grandparents have said i can shove it there barn :D

its in September on the 28th as far as im aware :D The mini is now safely in the barn in the dry as well with the engine removed, quick question tho, whats yours like to drive gear wise because ive read that 1st gear is useless unless you change the final drive ? i just thought id ask because im debating running mine on 10s also did you still want that conversion guide ?

Next plan is to remove all the running gear and the subframes ready to put the shell onto a body roller so should be fun making one of them

lol this is how you remove an engine west country style

I dont know what its like to drive on 10s. i'm currently running 12s and from what i've seen so far its not too bad but i dont have any proper experience of it on the open road. New final drives are jolly expensive aswell

Kieran

Edit -  I should ban myself for coming on here when getting back from the pub >_<

What gear box are you planning on running I am using s9b of a b18c4 it has LSD and quite long ratios in a civic any way lol with driving it 1st gear is not useless you just need a good bit of right foot control I mean don't get me wrong i can light the tyres up in 3rd if I won't to and I only got 150 bhp.

But back to the topic I always use first as a pulling off gear take it up to about 4-5000rpm then stick it in 2nd for foot flat as long as I controll it I won't get any wheel spin after 2nd or torque steer wich I was verry surprised with.

Driving around town is lovely if I won't I can approach a roundabout in 5th at around 20mph and just plod around with out changing gear but on long runs its not to nice going to Cornwall I was on around 4200rpm just to do around 60 and when all the traffic sped up I was Nerly in tec just to keep up lamo but that's not all bad as I got to Cornwall on about 1 tank of fuel

Also I have no problems with my 13" wheels doing heigh 3 figure sums but we won't mention that lol

Hope this helps

pub, now that is what im talking about ha ha. i have no idea what engine im gonna go with as i thought they were all pretty much the same apart from some 1.8s came with LSD, obviously id like to try and find one with LSD but its going to be a case of what ever comes cheapest lol plan is to buy a very tatty complete car so i can drive it around n test the engine before putting it into the mini :) i know FDs are ££££££££££ so ill probs just whack it on some 10s n see what its like because its not gonna be much hassle swapping it to 12s or 13s if needs be. would also be really handy to have a ride in someones Vtec mini don't spose anyone wants to take me for a spin some time ?

Any way back to the big hole burning through my bank balance ;D  picked up a complete clubman fiberglass front yesterday for £70

Also the nut rounded off on the clutch master cylinder so out came the angle grinder but num nuts here forgot it was full of fluid which sprayed out everywhere n almost caught fire :whistling:

Chucking 10's are all very well and good but have you thought about brakes? You need some decent stopping force with 160 odd bhp behind it.

Just something to think about thats all

Hi all, sorry for the lack of updates but time seems to of passed me by and then i managed to contract Mad cow disease whilst at NASS festival :(

But now im past the stage of being confined to my bedroom i decided to spend another day on it.

so both subframes are off, i must say upon inspection it would appear that someone removed the rear subframe before i bought the car then decided to put it back on with 2 bolts only done up a little more than finger tight :o so how we got this back in one piece ill never know ha ha but never mind less bolts to undo i guess :D

stripped most bits off the front subframe and was just wondering if i need anything at all from the bottom arms or tie bars to transfer over for the allspeed subframe ?

also started painting a few bits up ready for when i build up my allspeed subframe which is yet to be ordered but is on the shopping list

Decided to cut out the rear bins and rear seat

Found some more holes under the rear seat but nothing serious, think the worst ones are at the front but again nothing crazy

snapped a few bolts stripping the rear subframe so bought a new one for £30 :D so shall be cleaning and painting the radius arms soon and maybe cracking on with the welding tomorrow

Oh and on a different note i swapped my old 12x5 superlites for some brand new 10x6 starmags, don't get too jealous ;D
