Hi I am recently new to the forums. I have always been interested in cars but have only recently become facinated with the Mini as I have only just stupidly noticed how amazing, Mini's are to tune.

I was recently looking through the forums as I have become, again facinated by some of the things people have done to their Mini's but... part of me is a bit confused though on how certain parts of people Mini's have been made and how they work E.g. The gear lever on ade's vehicle, obviously it is of race performance standard, but how does it work and what is the process you go through when changing gear, is it any similar to the process of changing gear in a standard car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Dan

I have to say these forums are amazing and will definetly look forward to using them from now and into the future.

A dodgy example of what i mean is circled below.

ades mini has a motor bike engine and gear box

because of this he has a sequential gear box

a sequential box does not have the H shaped pattern on the gear change instead to change gear its pull back to change up and push fowards to change down

As Bungle has said, it is a sequential type shift, using the motorbike gearbox (Yamaha R1 I believe).

It is just that on the motorbike gearbox, you change gears with your foot, so a H pattern shift would be very difficult to get right!

Other than the gear positions, the gear change process will be similar (if Ade can be bothered to use the clutch that is). You rev, press clutch pedal, change gear, release clutch pedal, then rev again. In Ades case there is alot more revving though!!!!

You can get sequential gearboxes for minis, alot of rally cars use them too (well, the ones that can afford to basically).
