Hi guys, my mini will soon be needing a replacement windscreen, now the difference in price is massive and was wondering if I can get away with a normal mini windscreen, also if I can, what seal do I need?

The MPi screens are a little thicker than the standard, and they also have the rear view mirror mount moulded into them, so as long as you are happy to loose this, then go for the cheaper.

Have you tried getting an MPi Windscreen from Min-Its in Coleshill?

They do one without the Airbag writing which is lot cheaper, but still has the thickness and the rear view mirror holder.

I think the mpi screen is thicker for when the airbag deploys, for some reason, i may be wrong but think i read it somewhere on here

Yer think that's the main jist of it, but I think the windscreen i har in at the moment isn't an mpi one and is leaking slightly, why I wondered what seal I need for a normal one

Mpi's are notorious for leaking around the windscreen, it may not be the seal but the scuttle rusted away?

Mpi windscreen have the mirror stuck to the windscreen and older models have the mirrors screwed to the interior roof.

CCB10011MS - Windscreen Seal

This is the wider seal as fitted to all cars post 1991.

I took the windscreen off when it was only leaking a bit, some of the scuttle is rusted but it is more where the water has dropped off from the windscreen on the inside, I will try again and if it still leaks I will try the sealant, worst case is getting a new scuttle in there

The thicker windscreen and seal is to prevent it blowing out upon airbag deployment.

If you're havng the seal off the car as well, I would recommend running a strip of duct tape around the bottom half of the metal work, thin enough that the seal will hide it when refitted. This will prevent water ingress between the scuttle and bulkhead seam.
