Not certain but I think thats what sellers do when the item is out of stock. That way people can see that they sell the item but no-one will place an order until they have new stock in and correct the price :)

Can't be right. Surely a typo???

True, it's quite a common thing to do.

To me makes the seller look like a rip off merchant not every one knows all these little ebay tricks

I saw a Mini Lambda sensor on for £355 yesterday. I contacted seller to advise and his response was quite rude. He had quite a few price typos on some of his other items. Subaru disc fitting kit over £ 800
His trade will suffer but I will never buy off him.

I would love to see there monthly sales report/analytics as this affects two things, repeat Business and customer engagement i.e they find that price then bugger off quick! Its a poor Business model and the likes of Dan Wilson (top ebay consultant) would cringe at.
He seriously needs to get a stock check system if he has to use that technique.

I thought the way it went was.....
A guy goes to buy a new floggle-toggle for his Mini.
The motor factors guy tells him it's £27-50 plus the VAT
He replies that Joes Motor Spares only wants £17-50 for it.
The motor factors guy tells him that he sells them for £17-50 when he doesn't have any stock.

Different matter - the motor factor would say that for 'bedroom' operators that don't have stock holding or units to rent. The eBay traders (including my company) have to increase the price so people don't buy them. People expect you to have stock if you are selling it on eBay so are likely to leave negative feedback if you contact them saying 'sorry out of stock'.
