Right getting ready for MOT time and just wanted to check the reverse lights, they are all wired up inside the cabin properly but when it touch the wires (just before they go under the car) it crackles like a faulty connection! So my question is can you remove the gearshift gaiter to gain access to the reverse light switch or is it only accessible from under the car?

Cheers

Andy

the wiring is best tackled from underneath.   The wires pass very close to the exhaust, and sometimes melt and cause a short.  For MOT purposes, don't worry, because reverse lights are not tested, but please sort the fault asap.

I never do this from under the car, there is plenty of room through the gear selector aperture to change or adjust the switch.  If the wiring underneath is breaking down, change the whole switch.
