I'm looking at buying an Austin mini engine, 1991 I believe. It's apparently a bare engine with no ancillaries. It's going for £150. Is this a good price as I'd like to buy all the ancillaries so what are the ancillaries, I'm new to this!, and how much can I expect to spend?

Cheers,
Sam

If you can see/hear it running then that probably is a very good price, but is it the size you want and what condition are the internals?  You will certainly need to cost out all the extras (carb, starter motor, distributor, coil, alternator etc. etc.) before you can possibly reach an informed decision.  A total of £500 - £800 would not be unexpected.

Unless you can get an informed friend or local mechanic to check the engine, you might do better to buy a complete set-up straight out of a running car.  That way you know you are within your budget.
