I will soon be putting a 1098 in my car and want to know what heads will bolt straight on without pocketing the block.I have a selection to choose from 12G292 and 12G940.

I would like the 12G940 but believe this requires pocketing, any ideas on the cost of this.

Any heads originally fitted to the small bore engines will be bolt on so to speak

12G295 - cooper head (pricey)

12G206 - same chamber volume as above but smaller valves I think

12G202 - standard 1098 head I believe and I think it's a good upgrade from the standard 998 head

And there's also the heads off of the 850 engines but I don't think that's what you are looking for

I've never heard of a 12G292 before ?

Other small bore castings are the 12A1456 as used on the racing-checkmate minis and the J type as used in ministox

You need to pocket the block or sink the exhaust valves to use a 940 head, but certainly it will be the best 'bang for buck' mod.

You never know - a 12G940 might fit without any modification (apart from water pump...)
