Hi guys,

I'm looking at different alarms for my car which should be built by June 2014 but there are so many to choose from.

The best one I think I have found so far is the A-Series Spares Silver package.

http://www.aseriessp...m/prod_532.html

I'm not fussed about having electric windows or central locking as for me it makes the Mini seem less classic.

For the price (probably around £85/£90 after TMF+ discount) it looks really good.

I was just wondering if anyone else has fitted this system in their car and can comment on it's quality and reliability etc. In theory it looks really good with its immobiliser and ultra sonic sensors, but is it just a bit of a gimmick?

There's loads of Chinese rubbish on eBay for £20 which I'm going to stay well clear of. That's why this unit looks good, it's a happy medium between the £200 systems and the crappy eBay stuff.

Any thoughts people?

i haven't got the system so can't speak from first hand experience, but mini mag has ran a couple of features on the a-series spares stuff and they've all been positive.

I know a couple of people who have got the A series alarm and from what I've seen it's pretty good, it's got some nice features. It's probably better than the cheap rubbish off ebay, but as you say not as good as the more expensive options. But overall I'd say it's probably worth getting, as it comes with the shock and ultra sonic sensors as well as an immobiliser.

Sounds good so far then. Will probably get it at some point, although it's definitely not at the top of my list.

I've got one, but it's not fitted yet!

The build quality seems superb though!

There was also talk of getting the installation approved for Thatcham Cat 1 status

I think it would be better if it wasn't approved for Cat. 1, because it would only make the price increase and you wouldn't get that back from insurance price. I checked and it only reduced my premium by £20 a year with a Cat. 1 alarm.

Hi,

I just saw this topic and just thought i would add a couple of things :) to help out.

1. Over the next couple of months (next 2 issues) Mini Mag are putting security packages through their paces. A-SD security systems have been featured 3 times in the last year and the Mini Mag workshops have loved the kit each time.

2. The build quality on the A-SD systems is very high. A-SD work direct with several sources to manufacture the PCB boards, the Plastic moulds and the metal hardware (for tailored packages) and so keep on top of the quality, this also helps keep the prices competitive for the package received.

So keep an eye out in Mini Magazine over the next couple of months or pop up to our open day (date TBC) and see the products in the flesh :)

I would of thought that the whole idea of fitting an alarm that was Cat-1 approved would be for peace of mind on your car and lower insurance. I recently fitted a second hand Toad ai606 to my mini, brought from e-bay for £60.00, as with HarrysMini my insurance was reduced by £20.00. So in three years it has paid for itself which to me is a good deal.

Hi,

We are only really going as spectators to Brands, our focus this year has been to expand our workshop and get our larger premises sorted. So we are giving Brands a miss as a trader, purely because most of the team are busy putting walls up and kitting out the shop.

If there is anything you would like taking down to Brands we can do that for you though. We will be with the Mini 7's all weekend so will be easily found :)

I will almost definitely get this system, it has everything I want from an alarm system at a price worth considering.
