Is the Cooper 7.5" brake setup supposed to have anti rattle springs installed? The pads in mine rattle about when I go over any bump in the road - so all the time! They have a fair bit of up and down play and the holes through the pads are more oval than circular, but dont look like they have worn, they look like they were like this from new. Should there be some form of spring to keep them tight, like there is in the 8.4" setup?

No just pins! Bit of copper grease on the back of the pad should help though!

Fair enough :) I know that copper grease helps with brake squeal, but thats not whats happening, they are just rattling around in the calipers, imagine two bits of painted metal clinking around by the drivers wheel  And it definitely is the pads, to test I took the pads out and drove (slowly) around a large and bumpy area of private land (our driveway) and there was no rattling. Put the pads back in and there it was, back again! Would copper grease help with this too?

What do you mean by 'fair bit of up and down play'?

I've always found S pads to be a pretty close fit in the calipers.

As in the pads can move up and down in the calipers, more so towards the split pins as the split pin holes in the pads are oval in shape, allowing the pads to move up and down.

A pic to show what I mean - you can see the pad holes are too big for the split pins and I can rattle the outer pad with two fingers:

Are your pistons free in the calipers?
