As long as the points and condenser are set correctly and the coil is correct type then there is no reason why it should backfire, what type of coil is on it ?

Coil is then a normal 12v item, to old to be a ballasted system, just confirm you have 12v on the coil + and a good earth on a head bolt

Right out of the 3 wires coming from the coil i have 12 volts from the coil to the dizzy, i have 6 volts from the ignition barrel and the 3rd is a white and black wire which is just blanked off in the car
On the coil you have a + and a - connection do you have 12v on the coil + with just the ignition on, the 12v supply comes from the ignition switch and not from the distributor, what colour wire/s are on the coil +

If you have no choke cable fitted then a cold start it will be to weak and most likely spit back and cough, connect the chole and warm it up and try it then
