Does it matter what way round a brake caliper piston goes in? I have the flat closed end against the back of the brake pad and the brakes seem to work OK.

I have a leaking seal on one of the calipers, which was my my fault, so would it be best to turn the piston round so that the open end is against the back of the brake pad?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes. Re seal the calipers and fit new pistons in the right way around. So the dishes side is on the pad:) use stainless ones for longetivity

Thanks all. They are stainless and the flat end is currently against the back of the pad - does this make sense?

I have done these before and I know that the metal retainer is a nightmare!

The pistons should be the other way around as stated above!

This is likely to have an effect on heat transfer I think!

I also wonder whether it would make them harder to bleed!
