:D Iv'e been told that a metro's 1275cc engine cant be put in a mini without re-mounting the rad and changing the engine mounts on it is this true and does anyone have a walkthrough about how to do it or something similar. What other modifications and changes are required if the engines out of a metro?

thanks clarks.2006

you can put the rad wherever you want as long as you have the relevant hoses and the space.

also, i've been led to believe you DO have to change the engine mounts... but this is purely a case of bolting the mini ones on i think.

lol sorry i'm not much help :D

it's such a common swap to do.......anyone else?

The metro rad is in front of the engine like most other cars. You can make it fit in a clubman, but there's not enough room in a normal Mini.

ive got an MG Metro in mine and its simply bolting on the mini mounts and shift the rad to the side of the engine, few other things but depends on whether your going from 998 to 1275 metro or 1275 mini to 1275 metro. theres quite a few posts on here about the conversion, have a search

Yep do a search there is plenty of info out there.

But essentially if you are putting a metro 1275 in a 998 mini the main bits that may need some thought are:

the top rad bracket - you will need the 1275 mini type to match the metro head.

thermostat housing - metro one has bigger hoses so again youll need a 1275 mini one and the top hose to go with it.

clutch - if yours was an early non verto long arm type you will need the verto slave cylinder and mounting bracket for a later mini.

distributor - you can use the metro one but may need to alter the wiring slightly if your old one had points.

these are the main things I can think of off the top of my head.

As far as the engine mounts are concerned, you remove the metro brackets and bolt on the existing mini one. (fitting new rubbers of course). Normally you would use a mini rad.

you may need to alter the pipe that goes on the top left of the cylender head to the heater because the hole is not there on a metro :D
