Im new to the site, only 19 but i have a 1983 mini sprite limited edition, had loads of work done to it, its completely standard to keep the value as high as possible, just had it reprayed. Anyone know of any other mini sprites on forums as i havent found any of my age yet! still needs a bit of work on the engine but i have my trusty hanes manual, also a little to do on the interior but the car looks exceptional on the outside!! really happy

cheers Alex

Hi & Welcome to TMF

You really don't deem to see many 80's sprites these day's, at least not in their unmolested original spec state anyway. Maybe that's because being a fairly basic spec model, they had a tendency to be modified more than most. Many City's seem to have a followed a similar fate. Nineties Sprites seem a bit more common, but then finding an original example of one of those is becoming much harder now, probably thanks to so many people turning them into Rover Cooper look-a-likes over the years!!  :whistling:

Mine is literally the only sprite of its age and condition that i have seen on any website, ye it is a fairly basic spec model but i hoping that with it being in mint condition and completely standard with low miles ( not to mention that it is limited edition and very rare) it would fetch a nice price come the day i need to part with it for my next project.

I've seen a few mint 80's sprites around at shows over the years, having a 90's sprite myself I always tend to notice them, but they are pretty few and far between. In terms of value though I quite agree.

People more tend to see the limited edition models as special, and therefore keep those models to original spec because they were only produced in low numbers in the first place. So much so, that LE models are almost seen as sacred and not to be modified, where as stock models such as city's, sprites and mayfairs etc are seen as fair game. This tends to mean that unmolested original spec stock models such as Sprites are actually now much rarer than many of the LE's are though!

I know somebody who's had a red 1984 Sprite in their garage for a few years that they've been gradually doing up. It was the car the red Vitesse models were based on. He sold it a couple of weeks ago though, hopefully it'll be finished and back on the road again soon.

a mate of mine used to own this fine example, witch was completely original, had never been welded or repainted  and had done a genuine (before the 1380 was dropped in) 24k from new. still think he was a little stupid for selling for around 4.5k if I remember correctly.

the original engine was sold along with it so the new owner had the choice of the 1380 or to switch back to the original 998.
