Hi, Need some help and advice please. I am changing the timing chain and tensioner on my 79 pre a plus 998 mini. The crank pulley had quite a bit of play and would turn about 15 or so degrees whilst the crank and the crank bolt remained still (probably goes some way to explain why it never pulled quite as it should despite the timing appearing to be spot on!). When I took it off the start timing chain I noticed what appears to be a lot of wear on the locating cut out. the crank shaft also has some wear at the end but not quite so much.
I believe the only solution would be to replace the pulley and hope the wear on the crank shaft is not to severe. Are there any other solutions as I really didn't want to be shelling out any more cash as I have just spent 500 on getting pats for the front suspension. I also need to get it sorted asap as I really wanted the engine sorted for the mini spares open evening next Tuesday! Pics of the pulley and crank shaft are attached. What would cause the wear? Just high mileage or something else? The crank bolt did not seem to be loose when I took it off but this is the first time I have ever undone one so im not really sure how it should feel. (I believe it should be torqued to 70 lbft)
Assuming it needs a new one would his be the right part: http://minispares.co...ulley.aspx|Back to search
It seems to be the only one on minispares and it seems different to mine?
Thanks in advance Rob
