Main lights come on with sidelighs, I've done some research and found the dim dip relay under dash, big pink one! Took this off main lights went off, side lights stayed on happy days, put dipped beam...nothing high beam worked tho, why does my dipped beam not work when I remove relay to achieve side light only ?

Thats the way to do it!

If you remove the relay, you need to bridge a couple of wires.

The dim dip relay, if left in circuit, is a frequent cause of headlight failure. Just throw the thing as far away as possible and join the blue-brown and blue-red wires securely, insulating the others.
