Isn't this the same as most online retailers, where your VAT is added to the invoice once you complete your order, and then postage based on what you have purchased?

I thought if it is a "retail sale / purchase" prices had to include VAT. If you are a registered trade business buyer (a garage repair shop) you have vat added.
I know what you mean and have simply walked away from these online web prices once at the checkout page hidden charges and the carriage can be a rip off.
Annoying and be interesting what others think.. RETAIL = INCLUDING VAT!

The DSN website clearly states (Excl VAT) next to the price so you should have been ready for the addition.
In some ways retail prices should include vat as it's easier, but many of these traders sell overseas where often vat would not be added, so you fix it for one set of customers, break it for another.
£4 carriage is very reasonable.
Your question are they worth it? Every penny IMHO
Regards
Steve

What is actually worse, are those that charge VAT on Royal Mail postage. There a stipulation in the government legislation that even states Royal Mail is exempt from VAT charges so basically, the seller is just making even more out of you under the guise of VAT.
Taken from HMRC website:
"Postal services provided by the Post Office are exempt from VAT, but this exemption does not extend to similar services provided by other suppliers, even where this might be seen as being in direct competition with the Post Office."

Only stamps are vat exempt (1st class or 2nd class) as of 2011 - If you have copied and pasted that from the HMRC website recently, they need to update that.

VAT registered companies / businesses HAVE to charge VAT on the total invoice value - including postage. They are providing the service of posting it, not the postage itself.
Fair to say they are doing nothing wrong otherwise HMRC would be all over them very quickly!
