I want to get some new wheels as these are so pitted and bad at the back its time for new ones. Current one are 4.5X12 on 165 60 r12 tyres. Now I was just going to get some 4.5 x 12 again but I am a bit worried about the quality as they are from all suppliers JBW (midland wheels) and have been told they are not the best in terms of quality and finish.

Minilite uk only do 5 x12 wheels as do mini spares( minilife wheels)  but I am not sure if they will rub. I don’t want to so any cutting or other mods really. I have adjustable suspension so can raise and lower a small bit. Here are some pictures. Could anyone say just by looking if they will rub or not.

Many thanks

You won't know till you try, I had to modify the front of my arches for my old 12x5.5 wheels and have again for my 10x7s, you may get away with it but chances are a small amount of the arch lip will need trimming at the front edge

So fitting 4.5 x 12 from mini spares would probably be best then as I assume if 4.5 x12 are already there they will be fine. I am curious would 5 x12 affect the tracking ie do i need this setup again if i change to new wheels no matter what the size.

Thanks

I think all Minis are a bit different in this aspect - my old Mini had 12x5.5's on and needed no trimming of the arches, running at standard height too. My Clubby has 10x5's on and again needs no trimming of the metal. With a fully laden car (4 people and luggage) the front wheels were just catching on about 1mm of the inside of the plastic arch extension so I sanded this back slightly, but the metal is unmodified.

my mini sits very low at the front and my 5x12's catch slightly on my standard rover special arches - i trimmed the very front inside lip of the plastic by a few mill and its fine now except for when carrying a few people under full lock

i have 145/70/12 tyres though so these are slightly narrower but taller than your's - i'm unsure on how much of a difference this would make compared to 165/60's

I see well I am going to go and look at them in mini spares on Saturday. If I can fit 5 x 12 will I have to get the car re-tracked or will it be fine. Also I have been looking at the Tech-Del minilites which mini spares do also. Do you think they are worth the extra as they are power coated.

Thanks

i don't see why you'd have to get you're tracking re done - all you are doing is increasing the width of the wheel not any of the suspension geometry. surely it's just a case of take old wheel off, put new wheel on: job done

how much of a price difference is there ? really it is up to you whether you can justify the extra cost for the added protection or not

Why not just refurbish the ones you have?

They are to far gone. Last time I had a puncture on one when they re fitted the tyre they had to take it off and grind the inside rim to get a seal as it was so pitted they could not get one. Also need 4 new tyres so might as well do the lot.
