Hello this is my first post.....

I have a 1967 MK2 Mini which I want to put inertia reel seatbelts into, so I have bought a pair of Kangol Reflex belts that came from an Austin 1100/1300.

I saw a Cooper that had them fitted a couple of months ago, but I can't remember how they fitted. I know this might seem pretty obvious - reel at the bottom, triangular eye at the top but I'm not sure about the 3rd fixing. I got a pair black of angled brackets with them and think the Mini had similar, but shorter. So I just want to see some photos of a belts in a car to see if the 3rd fixing is offset away from the reel on this bracket and how long the bracket is?

A couple of decent snaps will unlock the mystery for me redface.gif

Hi, I hope this photo will help. I'm not sure on the fitment of fixed belts so I don't know how they will differ. However, here is a pic of the inertia belts in my 1978 mini.

As you can see, the reel mounts in the rear bin. The triangular runner is fitted to the door frame and the lower anchor is fitted on the inner sill.

Hope this helps

Cheers Elliot,

That makes perfect sense now. Many thanks! That was the puzzle. Did they both go in the same hole. Now I know they don't.

I think I recall our '74 Min having the reel on the same bolt as the belt end. The latches were combined into a box will solid steel straps on top of the exhaust tunnel to the same mountings as the static belt straps.

I think the 67 Mini rear companion box has an ashtray in that would prevent the reel going in there. Also I believe the later companion boxes are reinforced. The early location for the reel should be as per Ethel's picture, ie both the reel and the lower anchor attached to inner sill.
Also ensure he top BC post mounting can rotate freely to present the belt correctly to the wearer.

I'd forgotten about the stroke of genius in putting ashtrays next to the seatbelts

To be fair the ashtrays were there before the seatbelts! Don't forget Issigonis designed his car to be driven not crashed!

Thanks a million folks. I now see exactly what I need to do in Ethels photo. That was my original guess, but as the car is away for paint I was seeking guidance so that when it gets back I know what I'm doing. Can't be too careful with seatbelts

Thanks again to all concerned!
