Are any of you guys using a dry sump oil system on your Hayabusa's?  Are you happy with it?  What brand kit are you using?

I looked at their kit, there are several dealers selling kits like that, both in the UK and here in America.

Oil is scavenged from the engine by the dry sump oil pump, which fits in place of the water pump.  This means you have to run an electric water pump.

Oil is then fed from the dry sump tank to the stack Hayabusa oil pump which feeds the engine with oil.  Pretty simple in some ways, but I don't like adding anything electrical like the elec. water pump.

But so far this seams like the best way to go.  I just want to hear from users how they like it before spending my money.

Hi Birdman,

I know my engine is not exactly like yours but I do run a dry sump pump that scavenges the oil from a mini sump externally and back into the engine. I also have an electric water pump (Davies Craig type) which works very well. The beauty of and electric pump is it can continue to circulate the water after the engine is turned off until a pre-set temp is reached.

Chris at Zeds won't run an electric waterpump anymore due to at least one failure due to overheating when teh pump stopped running due to thermal limiting...the Davies Craig pumps have thermal protection that shuts them down...nice to keep the pump from being damaged, but makes it difficult to troubleshoot overheating issues unless you're monitoring current draw on the pump itself.  Have you thought about Mike Downs' setup?  It's well engineered IMO and doesn't run off the waterpump drive.

Yes I have, and have been talking with Mike about it.  Only trouble is where his pump mounts is right where I have a frame rail, so his pump placement won't work for me.  I have asked Mike about locating the pump in a different location, like behind the cylinders over the starter instead of in front of the motor but he hasn't replied yet.

Your frame must be different from mine as I know this is what your using.
