I have a metro with a stock A+ 998cc.  I have a MSD streetfire cdi (cheaper range cdi) i'm going to throw on it, i was going to also upgrade the coil too.

 

I'm sticking with points

 

Question?

 

Do i need a ballast resistor?

 

What coil should I go for?

 

(trying the get a ballast answer from msd tech, but no luck yet)

OK got a reply from MSD 

 

"Do not use the ballast resistor when running the MSD CDI box."

 

Ok so just  12volt coil I guess.

 

The lucas sport coils any good, seem pretty cheap.

Both DLB105 and DLB110 are fine, i'd just ask MSD what they reccomend

Also bosh blue coil is a good 12v coil

msd as expected recommend their own 50 quid coils.

 

I don't even know if a cdi negated the benefits of a high power coil.

 

 

upon searching the dlb105 is the 12volt coil and the dlb110 the 9volt needing a ballast resistor.

Resistance is about 3.5 ohm so pretty much what you need

 

The dlb105 seems to give a stronger spark at high revs but i have to add that mine failed at a certain point..

just ordered a dlb105, hope it don't fail!

 

Anybody else go coil experiences good or bad?
