Hi all, I just installed this KAD short shift kit:

http://www.7ent.com/...kad1013216.html

Everything went smoothly, but when I took the car out for the first time today, I noticed 2nd gear was very hard to engage, it wants to grind and not sink in.

All other gears engage fine.

I am suspecting that it's too short of a throw into 2nd gear, and it can't fully engage.

Notes:

- It will engage about 10% of the time, and only when I'm going very slowly.

- When the car is off, it will clank into each gear ok, seems to be fine

- I am not suspecting any parts in the actual geabox to be bad, since they were OK before starting the shifter install

My main question

------------------------

Is it possible to adjust the linkage, so that 2nd engages more quickly, so that the shorter throw will fully get into second gear?

The kit has highlighted the fact you have a weak, synchro on second gear, try changing into second at half the speed. This should get you to where the synchro was before you changed the lever.

Ultimately its gearbox rebuild to solve the issue.

Yes I'm talking one out of mine and converting back, the lever has poor feel in my opinion and I much prefer the standard change, and in the long run its kinder on the syncros/bulk rings as AC said.

I'll buy it for my auto if you want to flog it.....   ;-)

AC: You're talking about a rebuild at the gears correct? Not the rod-change box where the stalk comes out? I am also wondering if the mounts are bad, which would make the whole box rock more than it should, thereby making it harder for the forks to select a gear
