Iv'e been thinking about changing the standard stereo I have in the mini put actually just want to play music from my iPhone, all the decks available all look to modern with scrolling lights and big led displays...
What I want is simply a dock for the iPhone that plays through the speakers, has anyone done anything like this?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dru

All my stereo's have a 3mm jack point on them and I play my tunes via my phone through this. Most stereos you buy have this capability these days

I would be interested in this too, although depending on how much work it would take I may just hide my headunit somewhere and have a 3.5mm lead going to a dock up front. The red flashing leds do look a tad too much in my car too!

One option would be to connect the dock to an in car amp which is then connected to the speakers.
There are numerous suitable slimline docks with a 3.5mm jack output.
Could this be moved to the ICE & Security section please?

The iPhones DAC is not the greatest so you really want a proper serial or Bluetooth connection and use the headunits own DAC.
If you want understated I can't recommend highly enough the Pioneer P88rs.
But they are now secondhand only as they are not made anymore.

I had the same Idea, Luckily the HU I was using had a CD changer with RCA inputs so I could just connect a 3.5mm AUX jack into that and it works from my phone.
If you need more information just quote me in a post.

I do have a stacker mounted under the rear seat, I'll check it for an AUX jack
Do you have a something to (on the dash) mount your phone?
Thanks mate.

Sorry but the AUX cable connections will be on the back of the HU and you will need to remove the CD changer which kinda sucks unless you made a switch over kinda setup. The CD changer might connect to the back of the HU via 2 RCA connections If this is what you have (like I did) you can get one of these http://compare.ebay....&ff14=66&ff19=0 a you will be able to connect your phone up. Then you will need to change the source on the HU to whatever they CD changer was set to and you should be able to listen from your phone.
Like this
Just make sure you're plugging them into the Audio inputs(CD changer) not output (to the amp)
If you care in anyway about sound quality avoid just using a Aux in or mini jack only input.

Good point Ruckus I just thought I would give him a cheaper option number two.

Your know I've never heard of a head unit with inputs. Normally if it has a cd changer it will use a different kind of connector, usually a pin type and not RCA's. I expect the OP wont find input RCA's on the head unit.

? I've had lots of headunits with RCA inputs, my current Denon/Rockford unit has 2!

if you have an amp and speakers you could just plug into that instead of your head unit. or have a switch between 2 channels so you can have a cable or dash mounted 3.5mm port you can plug into and play from
