See my last post, I was typing when you put the reply up so hadn't seen it. That is good news! Just need to find the running issue now.

Not usually full, there is always an air gap. About 2/3 full seems to be normal. If you are unsure about flow, take off the carb inlet and put it into a jam jar. Turn the car over for a few seconds and see if any petrol comes out.

The light will come on when the car stalls as oil pressure will drop.  The light should be on when you turn on the ign and go out when the engine fires up.

If that is what it is doing then I would say that the oil system is ok. As for it cutting out, if it does it at idle speed, IE when you pull up to a junction, try turning the idle speed up a little. It should be 850rpm +- 50....

Pack your bags and go. Make sure you have 5* breakdown cover to get you home in an emergency.

If it breaks down, put it down to part of the fun. If your going to worry all of the time, sell it and buy a euro box POS......

Hope you go and have a mint trip !!

As I said above, i think you need to systematically go through the fuel and ignition systems and check everything is as it should be. Sadly this isn't a quick process. It could be something simple, or a combination of minor things adding up. Either way, adjusting stuff without an understanding of the problem is trusting to luck to fix it. Just a damn shame it has happened when you have this trip planned.

Have a look at the brown wires near the steering column/lower dash rail area... I had this problem once and it turned out to be a faulty connection. Fiddle with the wires while stationary and its running fine to see if playing with any wires cause it to cut out.
Have a look for any discoloured/scorched connections.

id be looking at the wiring that runs across the bonnet catch panel and check the plugs that have the wires to the dizzy plu in, my car was cutting out and that was the issue, also mine cut out becuase the plug on the dizzy , A+ electronic where 1 of the wires went in somewhere inside the rubber part was broken so made all new wire for the dizzy back to the coil prob solved, mine used to cut out when put in reverse, it was to do with the way the motor mover and pulled/pushed on the loom
