OK., so I screwed up........  Welded a box in the front bulkhead for a Weber 45 and now there is insufficient room behind the speedo to feed the drive cable in.  Is there such a thing as a right angle drive which will allow the speedo cable to come in parallel to the dash and then curve away into the engine bay?

Alternative solutions involve making a new dash (lots of time wasted) or not connecting the speedo and just using the GPS for speed measurement.  Neither option would please me!

Since Weber boxes are not that unusual, other people must have experienced the same problem - help please.

Don't have the speedo in the middle.

Put a hole in the Webber box for the speedo cable

Don't have a speedo

There's 3 options for you.

There are right angle drives for the Smiths, centre speedo, threaded coupling. They aren't cheap as aftermarket bits but they were standard eqpt on some old cars (Triumphs?). I think I have a couple knocking around somewhere.

Thanks, but not a lot of point in welding in a fuel proof box if you then drill a hole in it! :D

For me, the important thing is that a right angle drive is practical and available - at a price!  hopefully I can find one that doesn't cost as much as the speedo - one lives in hope......

The mg midget 1500 used a 90º drive on its smiths speedo.  Im not 100% sure its the same conection but worth a look.

Thanks Mossy - some doubt from that MG thread that the drive inlet/outlet are the same size (which I need) but every new option is one to explore.

Cheers,

Bob

The Jaguar Mk.2 definitely had a 90 degree speedo coupling as that's what I use on my 1964 rally 'S'. You have to be a bit careful as some of the right angled drives are not 1:1 ratio.
