Hi Im planning on using an mpi steering column and switch gear in an earlier 1976 shell. Obviously this wouldn't have an airbag so do I need to install the airbag ring just in front of the switch gear or will this not be an issue not being there. I no I will also have to fabricate a mount to hold the upper mount aswell. Thanks David

You'll need the connector if you want the horn to work (horn buttons on the wheel)
And you'll need to leave the airbag in the wheel as it forms the centre of the wheel (Unless you're having a new wheel)
It requires a fair bit of re-wiring though!

I have done this conversion. For safety I removed the airbag, which involved removing the airbag unit from the wheel, drilling the rivets that hold the airbag itself to the airbag cover. I then remotely detonated the airbag in a safe environment. I could then just fit the empty cover back to the wheel. There is a small amount of risk involved due to the explosives in the airbag but its easy enough to do.

cheers Rewiring isn't a problem as i'm making a full custom loom using a fusebox ready made up with relays in aswell so all I need to find out is what pin is for what. Also on the wiper stalk the rotary switch part has 3 lines 1 solid line then 2 soild lines. I gather these are speed 1 and speed 2 but what is the picture with 1 line broken into 3. Is this intermittent?
