:'( Is there a diff between the needles for a HS carb vs a HIF?? Most of the minis i have seen with the HS carbs with the intake manifold, rc 40, pancake filter- etc.. are running the AAA needle. My wifes mini, which is slow as dirt for a metro engine, with the 1 3/4" HIF is running a BFY. I cant even find this needle on my chart and was wondering if i could run the AAA in it or if the needles were diff. in some way.
Thanks
Ryan

Any idea what needle is commonly being used for the typical stage 1 set up?

A** needles are for 0.090" jet and B** needles are for 0.100" jet
HS4 is 0.090 jet and HIF44 is 0.100" jet, so no, they are not interchangeble

Thanks for the info! I know what the nex post is going to say "go down to the rolling road!", theres a problem with that in the US... redneck mechanics are afraid of english cars.. Are there a few people out there running a metro 1275, stage 1, hif44 that can let me know what needle they used so I can play with a couple?? Thanks!

Can you determine whether it is running lean or rich? Is there soot over the back of the car? Maybe look at the plugs?
I have a 1275 1990 cooper with a HIF44 which had a BFY as standard. When I put a Maniflow LCB, RC40 and airfilter on it became leaner as I went faster. (felt like i was driving against fast wind! went better if i pulled the choke out.) I changed to a BBW which was much better but still a bit lean in the top end. Tried a BDK but that was too lean to start with then when too rich at the top end. I've gone back to the BBW and but sanded down the last inch and a half and it works well. I recommend a Air Fuel ratio gauge. Good luck
