hi im a new user of your forum and raceminis along with a few friends as autograss cars so imeadiately we have the problem of not having access to the age of our vehicles, engines etc.

my question is;-what would be the best cylinderhead to use on a basicly standard mini thousand engine to get maximum performance, taking into account this is short circuit oval racing (2nd gear) any info would be greatley recieved.

many thanks

A 12G295 has the biggest chambers to suit a 998, I am sure that most track minis will run a 12g940 though, Wait till the docs arrive.

As said the 12G295 is a good head and was fitted standard to the Cooper 998, there getting a bit scarce though but do come up from time to time, the other option is again the 12G940 and depending on the cam may not need the bores pocketed. Whats the rest of the engine spec going to be? it will need a few more mods to provide max power from a 998, what sort of power are you looking for?

wazman, from your post im guessing your running a class 1, in this case 12g940 (1275+) head or 12g295 (998 cooper) head arent allowed,
there are a few different castings for the none cooper 998 head, many people will try and claim the jcast head is the one to have and ask a small fortune for them,
if rest of engine is all standard i would look at using head you have but having work done with rules, lots of engine builders specialising in class 1 engines, only need to ask around pits at next meeting, very good reports on tbr engines and heads although expensive dave walker, sleaford mini center, allit motorsport, morspeed are all other names to try and gget contacts for that should be able to help

cheers matt
