Hi,

I am doing a rear end repair and need some advice. Once I have welded in the repair panels what would be a good way to treat / paint temporarily until I am ready to do the actual painting. The reason I ask is because I am on leave and may not get to do the real paint job for another 6 months.

Some of the repair pieces are from Somerford (black) some where Mini Spares (grey) I have cleaned all of the paint Mini Spares panels as it was not too good but should I do the same on the Somerford bits.

What I don't want to do is put on a primer and then in six months have to start all over again so what would the first steps be and would this last six months for the upper coats?

Areas I am talking about are:

1. Inside Boot - not too worried about this and hav a can of Blue Hammerite Smooth?
2. Rear End Boot Hinge Panel and under Rear Lights.
3. Underside of Boot Floor and Wheel Arches.

Thanks

Zinc phosphate primer, you should be able to pick it up from a local auto paint store or auto shop?

The biggest issue here will be moisture. If leaving it for that amount of time then Zinc primer will help but i would flash some topcoat over it.

I have half a 450ml can of U-POL ACID #8 1K Etch Primer and a full can of U-POL WELD #2?

Otherwise ill source locally some Zinc Primer, we do have a Halfords nearby, expensive but handy?

Like this:

Guess I should use some Panel Wipes? Like these: http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165495

or should go for a brand name:

http://www.ebay.co.u...W-/161050830617

Like I said I want to prep properly now to avoid having to do it again.

The Mini is garage and other areas seem to have faired ok from storage?

With regards to body filler should i go for good old ISOPON or U-POL:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?srch=filler&action=search&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1

Sorry for the multiple questions :-)

Not sure about the wipes to be honest. i only buy mine from a proper paint suppliers.

Filler i would recommend Upol Fantastic. It is very good.

The acid etch only use on bare metal.

Thanks

I'll use up my Acid Etch on any completely bare surfaces and also get some zinc primer.
