More consistent spark timing.
Less maintenance needed.
Ermmm, struggling for disadvantages, need a ballast coil?

Might be differant for a whole distributed but for a conversion kit on a normal distributer it doesn't matter what coil you have. The wiring is just slightly differant and the instructions that come with it are very clear and easy to follow

cost isn't really a disadvantage either, probably same price for a set of points, condenser and rotor arm as it is for an after market electronic kit.

One disadvantage is if your having starting issues or break down, with points you can pop off the cap, have a person turn the key and watch to see a spark at the points.
With electronic points replacement, if the (sometimes Chinese) parts take a **** on you, you cant tell if it bad or not, and would have to pull plug to look for a spark.
