So the dizzy on the Clubman i have just bought is a Metro electronic dizzy and it has the usual problem, cutting out at around 3000rpm, now this is nothing unusual for me, every MG Metro engine i have fitted has had the same problem (sooner or later) so is it just the "black box" or as has been surgested, wrong coil?

What i normally do is bin the dizzy in favour of a standard Mini dizzy with aldon ignitor, however, money being tight, i want to do it on the cheap!

So any tips or help?

It could be the coil, but it could be the ignition module too??? :proud:

You can get the modules tested at most garages, the one I used to work in used to test a unit for a fiver or something. Or if I was testing one I would usually do it for a pint!

Know anyone with a MG Metro that you could borrow the coil off to try it on yours?

think the black box is the amplifier module so it could be that.

i wonder if mine does that because it always seems a bit laggy around the 3000rpm mark???

Wirral, near Chester, Liverpool!

Had 4 MG Metro engines and all do the same thing after a while, but am cheap so trying to work this one out first, rather than bin and buy new.

Smudger, to what degree are you a "tinkerer"? Do you like sawing, filing, and such?

If you want to try a different dizzy in the clubby and want electronic ignition on the cheap, consider the Hitachi (Nissan) dizzy conversion. You have to modify the mounting foot a little and move the drive dog from the Lucas unit to the Hitachi one but once done... you've got electronic ignition for the price of a trip to the scrap yard.
