Okay so I've been struggling to locate the source of an oil leak coming from my 998cc manual 1990 mini engine.

The leak starts after driving the car for 10 mins once its all warmed up nicely and it seems to be coming out from the front left side of the engine as you look at the engine from the front.

I've changed the oil pipe from block to filter head and the oil pressure sensor that is located in the area of the leak but to no success as the oil just seems to pour out :/

There is a nut looking thing under this which looks fairly solid but is covered in oil... as is the starter motor and my driveway (sorry mum).

my question to you guys is what is this nut looking thing? can I just replace it and hope the leak stops? is it a common leak area?

thanks for any help as its driving me mad :/

I guess the thing you mention is oil relief valve bolt. Think that has copper washer as well. Use new one or heat it and reuse. Be careful when undoing, the spring can jump out!

oil pressure valve nut and washer.

replace washer and clean area, test drive and see what happens.

Also worth checking for cracks around the oil pressure sender from over tightening. a small wrap of PTFE tape on the threads wont harm either.

It could also be the oil pressure sender is u/s, oil can pass through them and leak from electrical connector. (typical on vaux corsa)

Well the bung on my motor looks exactly the same as that, I thought it was someone doing a bodge a few years before I owned it
