No such thing as an MG Metro Auto, I'm pretty sure they were all manuals!

There was a VDP auto, and the VDP used the same engine codes as the MG Metro.

But regards the OP.... it's almost a straight swap...

What you will need is the selector from the metro as the 1300 auto box has a Park where as the 998 auto does not, you will also need a mini 1275 radiator bracket and top hose as you'll not be able to use the ones from the 998 and obviously the metro unit will not come with the side mounted radiator.

The only other thing is a change to the wiring as the start inhibitor on the 1300 is on the front of the gearbox, and on the 998 it's in the selector.

you mean the 998 rad... and yes it will, technically there is not differentiation between a radiator used on a 998 and one used on a 1275...

Obviously you can't use the radiator from the Metro, well you can, but you need to chop a hole in the front of your mini to do so...

bit of a post resurrection here.  I'm just about to change an early 998 auto for a 1275 out of a metro.  Looking at the comment above regarding the metro selector, I assume the original mini cable has to be used with it?

Cheers

The 998 selector does,nt have the park function, you will need one from a mini 1275, you may be able to use the metro,s although this is slightly different and may have a different mounting footprint. Also the metro selector cable is slightly longer.

thanks;  I appreciate the selector is different on the later car;  I'll need to strip the metro one out and look but I'm assuming the good old rover parts bin will have kept it similar.  The question was more on if the 998 cable could be used on the later car
