Can you explain your problem a little more. The hinges have to be mounted straight so you have to make up some angle metal otherwise the hinge will not work properly. It's quite hard to explain. Is your bonnet pinching at the scuttle end? Are your wings pinching at the top of the A panel?
Hi, i've had a look at your pages dave . Top job mate you've done loads.you say your thought process takes longer, but its still better than mine.
i've already tried squaring up the hinges with some spacers my neighbour made for me,but still could'nt get them to work. i spotted your box section on yours ,can you remember what size it was it looks about 40mm to me ? Also yours are bmw hinges ,do you know which model they came off ? mine are audi 80 ,i have some more coming from the bay of E that are the same model but look a different design( actually more like yours).
So mine at the moment, the wings are pinching the bonnet at the scuttle end. what seems to be happening is that as the hinges rise they rotate. the one on the drivers wing rotates clockwise and the one on the passenger wing rotates anti-clock.i can make them go the other way by changing the spacers around. I just can't get them to go straight. i have levelled up the car and been using my laser level to square up the hinges. I think i will use box section as you have because it looks a lot sturdier.Any thoughts though would be appreciated.
good luck with the paint prep.
cheers, barry.
ps just read your post again, when its closed everything sits fine and nothing is pinching the a panel.
